Group-L-9

Alicia is a graphic arts student. She enjoys her class work and will graduate in one year with a bachelor's degree in Art and Visual Communications. She has been doing some freelance work for relatives and friends to earn a little extra money to pay for school and has a 30 hour a week job working as a legal secretary in a law office. She likes her job as a legal secretary but wants to use her graphic arts degree when she graduates. What advice would you give to Alicia regarding job search strategies? Where can she go for help? Do you think she will be able to get a graphic arts position after graduation from college?

As we discussed what would be best for Alicia we decided that she should use the network she already has as well as build up a larger network by doing an internship before she graduates to find job opportunities. We also suggested that she should post her work on a website and create a portfolio to take with her wherever she goes so that she can get her work out there and her skills noticed.

We found that she could search for jobs at:

A few job opportunities that we found for her were:

· New Media Designer: New York Public Library : New York, New York, United States

· Graphic Designer: The Art Institute of Chicago
