Final Reflection Paper

Final Reflection Paper Jennifer Watson

12-7-11

CLSS 2100

Going into Career and Major exploration, I was fairly certain I was going to school at UVU for a Bachelor in Biology. I had been going to school now for five years with this plan being my main target and after my bachelor I would apply to a dental school. It seemed like a good plan, I have fifteen year experience in the dental field so why not? I chose to take this class because I needed a class to go with my chemistry class. I had to pick an online class to allow myself time to study a class I knew was going to be tough. Within the first week of this class I knew I was is the wrong major for me.

The second or third assignment was the Myers and Brigs test. I had never taken this test but I was blown away at how accurate it was on my personality. One thing that sticks out in my mind is something that was in the reading that week, (you may have interest in a topic and not have the aptitude for that particular topic). It was like a light going on in my head, it was that moment I realized I have interest in many topics that I don’t have the aptitude for. After taking that test and with the personality test, and getting of suggested career paths that might suit me, I felt extremely empowered. Among the careers and interest my dental career was listed but there were also so many more careers that were such a natural fit for me that I couldn’t believe I did not consider them before.

The first thing you see when you go into my blog is a picture of my husband and I when the Daily Harold did a story about us. My husband completed his Fiftieth marathon and I my twenty fifth. The first thing you read in anything about myself is how I love to run or exercise and among the huge list of careers I was given to consider was several careers in exercise science, Physical therapy, and Physical education. The very next assignment was to declare a major and all the steps that go along with it, so I did, Exercise science outdoor recreation. It was a very good fit seeing as all the prerequisites for Exercise science are the same as biology.

I am only missing two classes that I need, and they are human anatomy and physiology. When it was time to pick classes for the spring semester I enrolled in both. Next fall my baby will be going to school full time and so will I, my next step after my exercise science degree I think I will set my sights to the P.T. program. My Son will be getting home from a mission when I get into the program and he will be doing the P.T. program as well. I would love to start a practice where we would work together.
